The largest organ pipe is eleven meters high and weighs over 300 kilos, the smallest is just six millimeters. The Passau cathedral organ is impressive.
Passau - The three-river city of Passau is very impressive. The Danube, Inn and Ilz meet at the Three Rivers Corner and offer a wonderful photo opportunity. The same applies to the cathedral organs in St. Stephen's Cathedral, as they temporarily set a record.
The Passau Cathedral organ was built in 1928 with 208 registers and was the largest organ in the world at the time. Since then it has been known worldwide and attracts numerous visitors every year, as the Diocese of Passau writes on its website.

Unique sound concept with five different partial organs, each with its own sound character
The two baroque pillar organs were transferred to the west gallery of the side aisles in the middle of the 19th century and now flank the main organ: the Gospel organ in the north as a French solo and swell organ, the Epistle organ in the south as an Italian-baroque organ
The choir organ in the chancel on the left has its own mechanical console and is designed in a North German-Baroque sound style
The remote organ is installed in the roof structure above the nave in its own organ chamber, the sound of which can penetrate into the nave through the “Holy Spirit Hole”.

Cathedral in Passau: Largest organ pipe weighs over 300 kilos
From the main console, the cathedral organist can make each of the 233 registers and each of the 17,974 pipes sound, “pipes made of metal, wood and four chimes with a total of 134 resonators,” the diocese continues. The largest organ pipe is over eleven meters long and weighs 306 kilos. Their sound, with around 16 vibrations per second, is at the lower limit of hearing. The smallest whistles are only six millimeters long and the tones are around 16,000 Hz, which is at the upper limit of human hearing.

A good 20 kilometers of cable were laid in the system. The organ can also be played mechanically, using so-called abstracts - slides made of cedar wood. Over 5000 meters were processed.
