Berg/Phalsbourg

– 22 students from Berg's French twin town of Phalsbourg were guests at Lake Starnberg these days. The young people go to the Collège Saint Antoine in Phalsbourg and were accommodated with 19 students from the Kempfenhauser country school home. The seventh graders already knew each other well. “They have been writing to each other since the beginning of sixth grade,” reported French teacher Sabine Mühlbach, who oversees the exchange. Last October the Kempfenhauseners were in Phalsbourg.

The French young people had an extensive sightseeing program during their five-day stay. They took a city tour in Munich, looked at Nymphenburg Castle, the Olympic Park and the BMW World and also paid a visit to Berg's mayor Rupert Steigenberger. He was pleased that contact with the sister city in Lorraine is so lively. He reminded the young people: “You are part of a great peace project.” To underline his words, he presented the young people with the bronze sculpture of the Dove of Peace, which has been traveling back and forth between Phalsbourg and Berg for years. “The dove of peace was in the town hall in Berg for some time, is now in the Kempfenhausen country school home and will be brought back to Phalsbourg in the fall for the next student exchange,” promised Sabine Mühlbauer.

The young people had a lot of fun during their visit. They introduced completely new aspects that provided a lot of entertainment, as Sabine Mühlbach said. “The French children warned that Dr. von Gudden deserved a cross in the lake no less than Ludwig II.” noble
