The South Sea lies between Hamburg and Hanover - isn't that right? For camping fans and those who want to become one, the South Sea dream comes true in the Lüneburg Heath.

Lower Saxony - If you want to enjoy summer, sun and sandy beaches, you don't have to go directly to the North Sea in Lower Saxony. Between Hamburg and Hanover, not far from the A7 motorway, there is a real camping treasure.

The South Sea between Hamburg and Hanover – a campsite for the whole family

The Südsee-Camp (4.4 stars in the Google rating) is located in Wietzendorf in the Heidekreis district. The 4,104 soul community is even a state-recognized resort in the Lüneburg Heath.

The South Sea Camp in Lower Saxony: Experience report – This is what the Easter holiday cost

The journey took place on Wednesday, March 27th, in a campervan. From 3 p.m. it is permitted to drive a motorhome onto the South Sea camp site. Departure is planned for Sunday, March 31, 2024 and should be completed by 12 p.m. at the latest. To accommodate a vehicle in a category S pitch (for smaller vehicles), including four people (two adults and two children) and a dog, the total cost of the stay was €298.20, which is an average price of €74 .55 € per night.

In photos of the campsite, you immediately notice the impressive swimming lake. On around 3.5 hectares you can experience bathing fun here, just like on the South Seas. A non-swimmer area is also signposted.

Although the temperatures around Easter are not particularly conducive to swimming, even though the weather forecast predicts Saharan dust, blood rain and summer temperatures, there were still a few camping enthusiasts on the beach. Especially for children, the sandy beach is a huge sandbox that invites you to build sandcastles - no matter what the temperature.

Leisure activities for young and old – even in bad weather

If the children find it too cold in the sand or building sandcastles gets too boring, the campsite team also offers several leisure activities. Many of them are even free. On Thursday, March 28, 2024, the little camping friends were allowed to paint the Easter eggs they had brought with them and build matching Easter egg stands out of empty toilet paper rolls.

While the little ones are busy with crafting fun, parents can continue exploring the extensive grounds of the campsite or take a long walk with the dog.

A campsite for everyone: children, parents and dogs welcome

The family campsite not only offers space for all two-legged members of the family, but also for their four-legged ones: the dogs. The whole family can park their mobile home on special parking spaces. The nice thing: There are dog lovers here.

A short woof or a loud bark doesn't bother anyone here. In addition to a separate dog playground, you can also “ventilate” your dog with your four-legged friend on the numerous dirt paths around the campsite.

Your physical well-being is also taken care of at the campsite. You don't have to be self-catering at the campsite if you have the necessary change left in your holiday budget. A family meal (two children (5 and 10), two adults) cost €67.40 in the campsite restaurant, Pier One.

South Sea Camp: This is how expensive a dinner for a family of four is

A total of €67.40 was spent on dinner + tip.

The following meal was ordered:

Kufstein (schnitzel dish with fries and salad) for €19.90 + 70 cents for extra mayonnaise

Peru (baked potato with two baguette strips and salad) for €9.80

Jack Sparrow (fries with nuggets, ketchup was included) for €9.90

Captain Huck (small fries with nuggets, ketchup was included) for €7.90

The following was drunk:

Wildberry Lillet for €7.90

Kufstein (white beer) for €5.90

2 x small Sprite for €2.70 each

With the tip, which you are happy to pay for the fast and good service, the dinner cost €75. But the evening at Pier One was a great success for everyone in the family. The food was tasty and the quantity of dishes was always sufficient.

Tip: It's worth walking all the way to the back of Pier One, especially with children. In the large hall, children can easily while away the short wait for their meal in a play area.

Of course, if you don't want to spend €75 for four heads, you can either switch to other snack options on the campsite grounds or prepare your favorite dish yourself at the campsite. There is enough electricity at the pitch - it is included.

With a camper van on a category S pitch

A total of €298.20 was paid for the parking space (category S, for smaller vehicles or campervans), which is only possible in designated areas with a dog on board, for the short holiday over Easter. For four nights, this corresponds to €74.55 per night – in the low season, mind you. This will probably be more expensive during the peak camping season.

Small note: There was no WiFi at the pitch, and mobile communications (O2 as the provider) were also very poor at the pitch)

On the whole, the “Südsee-Camp” campsite is particularly worth recommending for families with children. In addition to various leisure activities, you can play with the children in various playgrounds and spend an unforgettable family holiday.
