Special measures in the catering, hotel and retail sectors. A health resort in Upper Bavaria is characterized by its friendliness for allergy sufferers. And even received an award for it.
Bad Aibling – An itchy nose due to house dust or stomach pain due to lactose intolerance. Intolerances often restrict allergy sufferers in their everyday lives. Allergies are often particularly challenging on vacation. For example, there is no gluten-free bread at breakfast or no dust-free duvet in the hotel. Different in Bad Aibling.
The Upper Bavarian health resort in the Rosenheim district is known for its mud spas and thermal baths. Allergy sufferers particularly value him because of his “allergy-friendly services”. Some businesses in the spa town have been awarded the “Quality Tested for Allergy Sufferers” seal.

Daniela Schuh from Guest Service Bad Aibling also knows this. She explains to the editorial team what the award is all about: “Numerous on-site measures lead to significantly reduced contact with the most common allergens.” It is primarily about animal hair, house dust and food allergies. Allergy-friendly cities are climatic health resorts that rely on low-allergen planting. 10 percent of all guest beds would also have to be suitable for allergy sufferers. “Giving allergy sufferers the security of complying with important quality standards” is the aim behind the measures, as guest service representative Schuh explains.
According to Schuh, overnight accommodations that have the seal must, for example, offer smoke-free and pet-free floors, good ventilation options and allergen-free bed linen. Allergy-friendly catering establishments would need a sufficient alternative range of dishes. From egg-free pasta to lactose-free milk to nut-free muesli, everything is considered. Excellent retailers must also offer allergy-friendly food alternatives.

TÜV checks the certification
The seal of the certification “Quality tested for allergy sufferers” is the Bavarian Spa Association. The tourism service chain from the hotel industry to restaurants and retail can qualify for the award, explains Schuh. TÜV Rheinland checks whether all necessary conditions are met. After three years, the validity must be secured again. 15 businesses in Bad Aibling are currently awarded the seal and are therefore allergy-friendly.
