Many Lyonnais looked up fearfully towards the branches of trees bending in the wind this Friday morning. And for good reason,
“a stormy episode requiring particular vigilance”
is underway in the city, with winds of more than 110 km/h. Several trees that fell on the railway tracks have also disrupted SNCF traffic since dawn, on the Lyon-Grenoble line, Lyon-Givors and in western Lyon.
“
A low pressure minimum called “Nelson”
currently off the coast of Ireland is giving strong winds this Friday
,” specifies Météo France, which has placed the Rhône and Loire departments on orange alert for violent winds. The winds have been strong since last night with gusts measured at 110 km/h in Saint-Étienne and 112 km/h in Lyon-Bron.
“Given the weather conditions of recent days, the trees could be weakened
,” adds Météo France.
Although it should weaken in the evening, this southerly wind will persist throughout this Easter weekend. With potential traffic difficulties expected as traffic is expected to be very busy in the Lyon region. Bison futé has classified the red weekend in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Roads are already blocked this morning, like in Rillieux-la-Pape where a tree is obstructing traffic. The Rhône firefighters counted 44 interventions during the morning (between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m.) for uprooted trees, branches or advertising panels.
No injuries have been reported in the department at this time. In order to guarantee the safety of the population, Lyon town hall has closed access to parks, gardens and cemeteries for the entire day.
