Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will make an official visit to Washington on May 9 and will be received by his counterpart Joe Biden at the White House, an official source announced to AFP on Friday. This will be the first meeting in the Oval Office between the two presidents. Recep Tayyip Erdogan had previously been received by President Donald Trump.
Relations between Washington and Ankara recently clarified after Turkey, a NATO member, approved the entry of Finland and then Sweden into the Atlantic Alliance after twenty months of procrastination. In the process, President Biden in January and then the American Congress in February “approved” the sale of American F-16 fighter planes to Turkey, putting an end to months of negotiations between Washington and Ankara.
