A luxurious giant camper disrupts the idyll for some camping fans. A heated debate ignites on Facebook, which saddens the creator of the post.
Kassel – Camping is a popular leisure activity and with the awakening of spring, many campsites in Germany open their doors. If you look around the forums of camping fans, a trend is currently reversing. While mini campers were once all the rage, many travelers no longer want to miss out on their usual comfort while on the move. This is why so-called glamping, a combination of glamor and camping, is becoming increasingly popular. But there are also those who believe that there should be limits. This is clear in the comments under a picture of a huge camper on social media.
“Should be banned”: Camping fans outraged about mega campers
The image shows a small camping trailer on the right and a much larger vehicle resembling a truck in the middle. The size difference is particularly emphasized by the direct comparison and not everyone is enthusiastic about it. “This should be banned on the campsite,” commented one angry camper on the Facebook post. Many other users agree with him and express their opinions. “This should be banned on the campsite. “It destroys everything and then the tractor has to come to pull it out,” writes another user. “Sorry, but decadence and megalomania should have limits when camping,” adds another. “That’s the last thing, I don’t want that thing standing next to me,” writes another.
Some campers feel that the large vehicle disrupts their camping idyll. “I find it bad to stand by and think that instead of being in nature I ended up in a high-rise development,” comments one user. “This is no longer camping, if you need luxury you should book a luxury hotel,” writes another. “But the small, definitely old camping wagon is very nice,” adds another.
Envy debate? Post creator appalled by negative comments
The creator of the post seems surprised by the many negative comments. “I actually wanted to show what is possible when camping, from very expensive to very simple side by side. Unfortunately, I notice that a debate about envy is starting again, which I find stupid,” he writes with a sad emoji.
Despite the many negative comments, there are also some campers who find the picture amusing. “I think the comparison with that little snoop over there on the right is great,” writes one user. “Isn’t this diversity beautiful? Everyone as they want and can. I bet the two campers meet at the hedge in the evening for a beer and chat about the advantages and disadvantages of camping vehicles,” adds another. “The main thing is that the residents are friendly and nice,” writes another.
Risk of confusion: camper or horse transporter?
But there are also questions about the large vehicle. Is it even a camper? “Aren’t they usually intended for horse shows?” asks one user. “Anyone who knows anything knows that it is not a normal camper, but a transporter for competition horses, with the option of operating at the front of the area. That means washing, changing and sleeping. Nobody goes on vacation with this, but rather to big horse tournaments,” writes another. It remains unclear whether it is actually a horse transporter.
