The town hall in Penzberg has a new landlady. Penzberg native Katharina Omanovic has leased the restaurant and will run it as a family business. The opening will be celebrated on Saturday, April 20th. Under a new name: “Wirtshaus Glück auf”.

Penzberg – “Good luck!” Katharina Omanovic chose this motto of the Penzberg miners, which is still often used today as a traditional greeting on official occasions, as the future name for the business in the town hall. “Wirtshaus Glück auf” is emblazoned on the entrance door to the restaurant days before the business officially opens. The name is intended to symbolize the close connection between the economy and Penzberg. And also the connection of the new tenant, because: “I am a native of Penzberg,” says the 34-year-old, whose maiden name is Ertl and who grew up in Maxkron, where her parents Hedwig and Peter still live today.

Koinschaufe landlord Adrian Auer quit after five years

She also learned from her dad that the town hall needed a new landlord, says Omanovic. As reported, Adrian Auer stopped running the Stadthalle after five years at the end of last year and closed his “Wirtshaus zur Koinschaufe”. This meant that the city had to start looking for a new landlord, which was not always easy in the past: the city experienced a fiasco when it presented a landlord duo at the end of 2016, but then took the unsuccessful applicant shortly before the opening . Things became strange when the company, with which the city had signed a contract, changed management and suddenly - without the city's knowledge - there was a new landlady, which led to the dispute leading to her being thrown out and the city hall being closed. It wasn't until 2019, when Adrian Auer and Tamara Wirth took over the town hall, that normality returned.

Auer's successor Omanovic is apparently a restaurateur with experience. After working as a manager in various restaurants in the Augsburg area for a few years, she ran her own bistro and a restaurant in the Fuggerstadt for about six years, she says.

“In a small town people are just different”

“Because of love,” the trained restaurant specialist then went to Nuremberg, where she worked in management for a large fast food chain for about nine months - until she found out about the search for a tenant in Penzberg. She immediately sought initial contact with those responsible and then officially applied to the city council as the new landlady in January. Why? Because she had had enough of the big city and wanted to go back to her hometown, because: “In a small town, people are simply different.” Her husband Ermin, who comes from Bosnia and was trained as a chef here, also liked it straight away Penzberg fell. He will run the “Wirtshaus Glück auf” together with her, said Omanovic. Their parents will also help. In business, but also at home, because the new landlady of the town hall is expecting her second child. Grandma and grandpa are therefore urgently needed to help with childcare.

Katharina Omanovic wants to open on Saturday

The boss emphasizes that everything is ready for the opening next Saturday. She has hired three chefs and numerous service staff, which means she has enough skilled staff. The “Wirtshaus Glück auf” will be a “traditional Bavarian restaurant”, in which the aim is to achieve a successful balancing act between tradition and modernity, so that old and young alike enjoy coming.

In addition to the dining room, there are several rooms available for events organized by clubs and companies or for larger private parties. The first inquiries have already been received. “We can also take care of the catering in the town hall,” says Omanovic. However, this is not part of the lease agreement. As a new offer, hungry guests can expect lunch from Wednesday to Friday.

“Monthly promotions” such as Stubenmusi

But Omanovic wants to offer her guests more than just good food. She also plans “monthly promotions”; for example, Stubenmusi concerts. “Events” are also planned in the town hall. Omanovic, who is a member of the Augsburg CSU, does not want to reveal any details about this yet.

The opening of the “Wirtshaus Glück auf” is on Saturday, April 20th, from 4 p.m. Table reservations by phone 01520/6718649 or by email to wirtshaus.glueckauf.com. Opening times: Wednesday to Sunday; warm cuisine from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Lunch from Wednesday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
