Construction site overview in Bad Tölz: Where is construction taking place – and for how long?

Highlights: Bad Tölz has many construction sites and many closed streets. Mayor Ingo Mehner says heating plants work better when connected to each other. Fine regulation doesn't work there, says Mehner. There are currently larger construction sites on Badstrasse, Eichmühlstrasse, and Kohlstattstrasse as well as on Säggasse (see box below). “More will follow, says Mayor Mehner, adding: “We also notice that they affect and move a lot of people.’

Drivers, pedestrians and cyclists have to be patient in Bad Tölz. There are construction sites everywhere. An overview...

Bad Tölz – Many citizens ask themselves: Are all of the almost simultaneous construction sites really necessary? Those responsible explain why. At a joint press conference, Stadtwerke Managing Director Walter Huber and Mayor Ingo Mehner explained the background to the individual construction sites and why equalizing them would mean a significant location disadvantage for Bad Tölz.

“Energy supply is infrastructure,” emphasized Huber. And these need pipes, cables and transformer stations. The unpleasant thing about it is that the infrastructure for this has to be built first. “Then it disappears into the ground and is useful.”

The numerous construction sites in Bad Tölz are a social issue in the district town. “We also notice that they affect and move a lot of people,” explained Mayor Ingo Mehner at a recent press conference in the town hall. There are currently larger construction sites on Badstrasse, Eichmühlstrasse and Kohlstattstrasse as well as on Säggasse (see box below). “More will follow.”

A key reason for many of the closed streets in the district town is the expansion of the local heating network by the Bad Tölz municipal utility company. There are currently several individual local heating networks in the city, explained Mehner. These include the biomass cogeneration plant on General-Patton-Straße as well as heating plants on Hoheneck (on Wackersberger Flur) and on Osterleite. “And we are getting the new thermal energy center next to the fire station” on Lenggrieser Straße.

According to the mayor, they are working quite well individually. “The heating plants work even better when they are connected to each other.” Mehner compared it to a tiled stove. It is not possible to increase this to a certain percentage. It is similar with a biomass heating plant. Fine regulation doesn't work there. Basically: “Either it’s on or it’s not on.”

Therefore, the new thermal energy center works with several boilers. “This means we can switch on in a cascade manner and get regulation,” said the town hall boss. The advantage of a network connection means that in times of lower energy demand, such as in summer, “you only turn on one heating plant and when you have a higher heat requirement,” another one is switched on.

Therefore, the individual heating plants in the city area should be connected to form two networks (upper and lower). The construction of the energy center and the north span is the reason for the many construction sites. “We have to be finished before the excavators roll in,” added Stadtwerke managing director Walter Huber.

Demand for local heating connection in the district town of Bad Tölz is “huge”

Mehner and Huber also emphasized in unison: “The interest in a local heating connection is huge.” A quarter of the output of the new thermal energy center has already been sold, and another quarter has almost been sold. “If we don’t expand the network now, people won’t be able to be supplied,” emphasized the mayor.
