Highlights: Jerusalem police arrested Prof. Nadira Shalhoub-Kavorkian for questioning on suspicion of incitement. She published a petition accusing Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. In another statement, she called for the abolition of Zionism. The arrest comes about a month after the Hebrew University suspended her in an unusual manner from teaching. The university already offered her to do her job - but she didn't do it, and continued to speak out against Israel, the university said. The team against incitement to terrorism online that I am at the head of continues to act and outline policy - every instigator will take his place"

The Jerusalem police today (Thursday) detained the lecturer Prof. Nadira Shalhoub-Kavorkian for questioning on suspicion of incitement, after she questioned the acts of rape by Hamas on October 7.

The arrest comes about a month after the Hebrew University, where the lecturer works, suspended her (Tuesday) in an unusual manner from teaching. Shalhoub-Kiborkian, a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, published a petition in which she accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza. The university already offered her to do her job - but she didn't do it, and continued to speak out against Israel. "Her statements take freedom of expression and academic freedom to the extreme and make cynical use of it to the point of incitement and incitement," the Hebrew University said in a statement.

Prof. Nadira Shalhoub-Kivorkian, an expert in criminology and social work, published a petition online stating that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, and in another statement called for the abolition of Zionism and questioned the existence of rapes on October 7.

Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir: "Congratulates the police on the arrest of Professor Nadira Shalhoub Kiborkian who incited against the State of Israel. This arrest sends an important message - whoever incites against the State of Israel will not be able to hide under one position or title. The team against incitement to terrorism online that I am at the head of continues to act and outline policy - every instigator will take his place."

The chairman of the National Union of Male and Female Students, Elhanan Fellheimer, welcomed the lecturer's arrest: "We hope that her arrest will mark a new way of dealing with the whole issue of incitement in academia and incitement against Israel in general. Students throughout Israel, led by the male and female students' union, have been crying out for a long time to stop the incitement, and it is good that the time has come. Israel is these days on a variety of fronts and it would be appropriate that at least in the wars within our home we know how to deal in the right way in order to eradicate this ugly phenomenon."
