Holding events online in the event of interruptions or phenomena of intolerance at the university, "is like giving in to blackmail and it's not right". Commenting on one of the points of the document approved by the Crui Board is Claudia Caporusso, the president of Sapienza Futura, the first list of the university that has its own representatives in the central bodies of Sapienza, as well as in the academic senate and on the board of directors. For the student, the university "is a free place. You can demonstrate peacefully, but not impede initiatives". After Covid, "it was so difficult to return to the presence, holding events online again wouldn't make sense", she explains.
Regarding the demonstrations of recent days and the tensions on Tuesday, for Caporusso the risk is that "we talk more about the clashes than about the request for peace". "We have often discussed the topic of mobilizations with the rector Antonella Polimeni. She is not the first with these methods", she adds.
Faced with the request of the organizations involved to be heard, the president of Sapienza Futura reiterates that "the rector speaks with the representatives elected in the bodies that represent all students". According to Caporusso, if Polimeni listened to everyone, she "would delegitimize those elected".
And on the agreements with Israel that the collectives are asking to be blocked, the student underlines: "we are not against free academic research within a context such as the university one which must not and cannot be subjected to pressure due to its typically universalistic character".
