Refugee accommodation planned at Wirthsfeld in Baierbrunn

2024-04-18T12:25:19.597Z

Highlights: A refugee accommodation for 96 people is to be built at Wirthsfeld in Baierbrunn. The idea is that there would be space for three to four prefabricated houses there, and around 96 people could then be accommodated there. The project will be discussed in detail at an information event for citizens on May 16th. However, the location was not entirely without controversy at the meeting. Anton Ley from the SPD said it was a "brainstormer" to "sacrifice" one of the only two properties owned by the municipality; it would then be blocked there for two decades. He also found it suboptimal that the area where Mitti will soon take place and where the sports and community center is located is not well developed. The Green Party representative Ursula Kuhn called the whole thing "tired." She made it clear that she had no capacity to work to ensure that the newcomers were well integrated on site.

A refugee accommodation for 96 people is to be built at Wirthsfeld in Baierbrunn. The whole thing is not entirely without controversy.

Baierbrunn

– The accommodation of refugees has been discussed again for some time. The flow of refugees does not stop; some of the emergency shelters in the district that have been built since 2015 are still occupied by the newcomers from the past. Some of them have long been recognized and even have German citizenship, but they can't find an apartment. Which has led to a lack of accommodation everywhere. This is also the case in Baierbrunn.

In the community in the south of Munich there are currently only ten refugees living there, alongside the around 60 Ukrainians who have found a temporary home, primarily in private accommodation. Now you have to look for suitable land there too, on which modular houses can be built, which the community would prefer rather than containers. At the most recent meeting, the committee decided, following a unanimous vote in 2022, to make an area available on Wirthsfeld for this purpose. The idea is that there would be space for three to four prefabricated houses there, and around 96 people could then be accommodated there. The project will be discussed in detail at an information event for citizens on May 16th.

Location not entirely undisputed

The discussion in the local council already showed that the “sensitive topic”, as Green Party representative Ursula Kuhn called the whole thing, is accompanied by a certain level of tiredness. Christine Zwiefelhofer (independent) made it clear that she had no capacity to work to ensure that the newcomers were well integrated on site. The hope was expressed from several quarters that the district office would take care of this.

However, the location was not entirely without controversy at the meeting. Anton Ley from the SPD said it was a "brainstormer" to "sacrifice" one of the only two properties owned by the municipality; it would then be blocked there for two decades. “This is material for a referendum.” He also found it suboptimal that the area where Mitti will soon take place and where the sports and community center is located is not well developed.

Prefabricated wooden houses are better for the townscape than containers

Mayor Patrick Ott (ÜWG) only partially responded to the arguments. He said clearly: “I will no longer open the location debate.” Ley had brought up a space in the commercial area, near Stautner, as an alternative. In addition, the town hall boss said that accommodation on Wirthsfeld would increase the chances that the community would finally get the dead-end road from the B 11 to Wirthsfeld that they had wanted for ages. Otherwise, the committee agreed that prefabricated wooden houses fit better into the townscape than a container settlement. Ravindra Nath, FDP: “Living in containers is hardly possible.” It can be assumed that families are more likely to be accommodated in Feel Home buildings, which have a term of 15 years, which is what everyone wants.

Take away the fear of citizens

In particular, former SPD mayor Christine Kammermeier called for the matter to be addressed positively. According to Kammermeier, we have to “take away the fear of the citizens” and we can ultimately learn from the mistakes made in 2015. Ravindra Nath also addresses “worries and fears”. Ursula Kuhn thought it was important not to decide anything until the people of Baierbrunn had been informed. The administration had already considered the idea of shielding the Feel Home development in the southeast from the noise with a wall. In the northwest it would be connected to the lunchtime care, which has to be relocated here during the construction of the school on Hermann Roth-Straße.
