The winter comeback has led to several accidents on the A95. Near Ohlstadt alone there were three crashes almost simultaneously on Thursday night. There were two injured and extensive damage. The southbound lane was closed for a long time.

Region - The accidents occurred on Thursday (April 18) around 1:55 a.m. in a section of a few minutes and meters on the A95 motorway near Ohlstadt. First, a 38-year-old from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district skidded in a Subaru in the right lane on conditions similar to black ice.

Winter comeback: Numerous accidents on the A95 - there were three crashes in just a few minutes on Thursday near Ohlstadt

According to the police, the car initially crashed into the center guard rail twice and finally came to rest in the right lane and on its roof. Luckily, the driver and his 39-year-old passenger were uninjured. The Subaru, which according to the police had summer tires and had to be recovered by a towing service, suffered damage of around 15,000 euros. In addition, four guardrail fields were damaged (around 1000 euros worth of damage).

Two passengers were injured and taken to hospital

Shortly afterwards, a 25-year-old who was driving a Hyundai in the right lane tried to avoid the Subaru, which was lying on its roof, by braking and taking evasive maneuvers. However, this was no longer possible on the almost icy and snow-covered road. The Hyundai collided with the right guardrail twice in a row. While the driver remained uninjured, the two passengers (56 years old and 27 years old) were taken to hospital by emergency services with minor injuries. The Hyundai, which was badly damaged and no longer drivable (around 30,000 euros worth of damage), had to be towed away. Three fields on the guard rail were damaged (around 750 euros worth of damage).

The two occupants were lucky

Regardless of this, a 20-year-old Tyrolean who was driving a Toyota in the left lane ended up skidding. The car crashed into the center guardrail and then came to a stop in the left lane. The Tyrolean and his 23-year-old passenger remained uninjured. According to the police, damage amounting to around 10,000 euros was caused to the Toyota, which was no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away. Four fields on the central guard rail were damaged (around 1000 euros worth of damage).

A95 was closed southbound for 1.5 hours - traffic was diverted

In order to be able to clear the road and tow away the three vehicles involved in the accident, the road in the direction of Garmisch-Partenkirchen was completely closed for around one and a half hours. The traffic was diverted to the Ohlstadt junction. Around 65 emergency services from the fire departments from Ohlstadt, Großweil, Murnau and Penzberg as well as a district fire inspector from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district were involved in the clean-up work and traffic measures. The motorway maintenance department was also on duty with two gritting vehicles and road cleaning staff.

Six accidents on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday night with around 100,000 damage

According to the Weilheim traffic police, there were a total of six accidents on the entire A95, between Munich and Eschenlohe, on Wednesday afternoon (April 17th) and Thursday night (April 18th) due to the short-term wintry conditions. A total of four people were slightly injured in the six accidents. According to initial estimates, the vehicles involved and the crash barriers affected suffered a total damage of around 100,000 euros. In addition to the Weilheim traffic police station, numerous emergency services from various fire departments as well as the Starnberg motorway maintenance department and the rescue service were also on duty.

Too fast and sometimes with summer tires

“In all accidents, improper speed was seen as the main cause of the accident given the wintry road conditions,” says the traffic police - there was sleet at times and snowfall and ice, especially at night. “In some cases the tires of the vehicles involved, some of which had already switched to summer tires, were problematic in terms of tread depth,” said the police. The respective vehicle drivers will soon face a three-digit fine and a point in the Flensburg traffic offenders file.
