At Cap Ferret, the enchanted metamorphosis of a seventies villa

2024-04-19T12:47:00.723Z

Highlights: Fabrice Juan's first project at Cap Ferret was a renovation of a 1970s concrete villa in the Arcachon basin. The new owners entrusted its rehabilitation to Fabrice Juan, who had already put his hand in their Parisian interior. The villa with an overhang is, in fact, made of concrete, built in the 1970s. The large living room illustrates this approach: to fully enjoy the spectacle of the sea and the pine trees, sit in the welcoming Odyssée armchairs. The joy that led to the project floats in the atmosphere as soon as the door is pushed open. A real technical and aesthetic feat, unfortunately neglected for too long. The renovation of this house is its first step outside the capital. A hell of a challenge in this breathtaking place. The house is now owned by a French couple who live in a luxury villa in the town of Montpellier, on the south coast of the island of Corsica. The renovations are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

This concrete villa, with strong graphic lines and a view of the Arcachon basin, was renovated by interior designer Fabrice Juan. He made it into a superb seventies setting.

A playground ! This is, in a way, how Fabrice Juan approached his first project at Cap Ferret. A fan of “French refinement”, this interior designer, who founded his agency in 2011, after working alongside architect Jean-Louis Deniot, stood out with his Parisian creations. And the renovation of this house on the Arcachon basin is its first step outside the capital. A hell of a challenge in this breathtaking place. The new owners, who fell in love with this “Unidentified Resort Object”, entrusted its rehabilitation to Fabrice Juan, who had already put his hand in their Parisian interior. “It was very exciting to make a vacation home. What was also exciting about this project was its uniqueness. I was confronted with very technical problems, both inside and outside, and it was a project that was both complex and very fun.” The joy that led to the project floats in the atmosphere as soon as the door is pushed open. “We initially entered a concrete rectangle where the entrance and the garage coexisted,” remembers Fabrice Juan. So everything had to be restructured.

We recreated a garage and I designed a curvy corridor with large circles on the walls, a nod to the seventies. We walk to the living room with its bay windows. And there, wow! There is the view.” Fascinated by this large futuristic vessel placed on the dune, Fabrice Juan chose the wonderful link with nature as the guiding principle of his work. “I have oriented everyday life towards eye-catching views in every room, bringing color and instilling a high degree of comfort.” The large living room illustrates this approach: to fully enjoy the spectacle of the sea and the pine trees, sit in the welcoming Odyssée armchairs with lines evoking Space Age design or in the very attractive Nymphe XXL sofa.

Furniture already produced by Fabrice Juan, but adapted to the measurements and the spirit of the place, and completed with new pieces, in which we find the expertise of this decorator who also trained as a cabinetmaker. On the same level as the large living room, the kitchen and the dining room, with its fireplace covered in corrugated staff, remind us that the philosophy here is to round the corners. The bedrooms are distributed on this floor opening onto a passageway, and on the lower garden level, where they benefit from a very large terrace. “They all have their own personality, and from all the beds you can see the outside.”

If we enjoy discovering every detail inside, the garden is also enchanting. “There was a huge amount of landscaping work. Terraces have been created to punctuate the differences in height and enjoy the sun or shade. I developed outdoor furniture. At the swimming pool level, there is a shed that we rebuilt identically because it had collapsed. It was set up like a Robinson Crusoe refuge, you have the impression of being alone in the world,” explains Fabrice. And if you prefer to take a dip in the salt water, there is direct access to the pool at the bottom of the property. What if we were in paradise?
