The former ambassador to Israel has been sentenced to 8 years in prison since last year but is currently free. Furthermore, the Superior Court of Justice of Entre Ríos rejected appeals against his conviction, which leaves it firm.

The investigation initiated by the former prosecutor of Entre Ríos, Cecilia Goyeneche,

continues to bear fruit.

On the one hand, her active colleagues

asked the Justice Department for the preventive detention of former governor K Sergio Urribarri

and his brother-in-law Juan Pablo Aguilera in a mega case for corruption or in any case that they leave a real bond and be prohibited from leaving the country.

Urribarri was sentenced

to 8 years in prison

in a mega-trial for cases of corruption in his government between 2007 and 2015. He was considered responsible for crimes of negotiations incompatible with the exercise of public office, fraud against the public administration and embezzlement.

On the other hand, the Superior Court of Justice of Entre Ríos, with the votes of Miguel Giorgio, German Carlomagno and Gisela Schumacher,

rejected complaint appeals from Urribarri and other defendants in the case as inadmissible, making their conviction final

. Goyeneche initiated several investigations against Urribarri but then a jury, made up of magistrates who responded to the former governor, had her removed from office. Goyeneche still has an appeal before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation against her dismissal.

In addition, the prosecutors of Entre Ríos requested the immediate arrest of the former Minister of Culture of Urribarri Pedro Báez so that he can be transferred to Penal Unit number 1 of Paraná yl, reported Analysis magazine.

He was convicted after a trial that took place between 2021 and 2022 along with other officials and individuals linked to provincial State contracts during his government administration. Among the highest-ranking convicts for the position and role they played was the former Minister of Culture and Communication, Pedro Báez, and Urribarri's brother-in-law, Juan Pablo Aguilera.

Prosecutors Patricia Yedro, Gonzalo Badano and Juan Francisco Ramírez Montrull carried out the accusation in the oral debate that took place for several months.

The representatives of the public prosecution aired in the mega-trial five cases accumulated for corruption during Urribarri's administration: a contract by the provincial State to several national media to publish a political position against vulture funds, with public money; the constant hiring of advertising and signage services to companies created by Juan Pablo Aguilera; the installation of a beach hostel in Mar del Plata with public money that had the purpose of promoting the former governor's candidacy for President. In addition, the hiring of advertising spaces in national media to disseminate Urribarri's image, within the framework of his presidential campaign; and the hiring of posters on routes in Buenos Aires also to disseminate the image of the former governor.

The Court of Trial and Appeals that controlled the legality of the investigation and debate was made up of José María Chemez (retired), Elvio Garzón and Carolina Castagno.

While the debate was taking place, Urribarri was serving as ambassador of the government of Alberto Fernández and Cristina Kirchner in Cyprus and Israel. The former governor had to resign from his diplomatic position after the conviction, on April 7, 2022.
