Nadira was suspended from her job at the university and last night she was arrested, among other things, because she published a petition in which she accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza and called for the abolition of Zionism.

The judge continued: "I can understand that you wanted the arrest warrant in order to conduct searches, but so far you have not found anything that I can hold on to and think that it justifies the arrest. Nor did I receive any other explanation. The pages you found are an expression of opinion. You did not find anything related to an organization that is prohibited By law".
Earlier, the Hebrew University issued a statement condemning her arrest and called for her release: "The university strongly opposes many of the things that Prof. Shalhoub-Kivorkian said about a month ago, and also acted firmly on this issue. However, we are very disturbed by her arrest if indeed the arrest is based on the things she said publicly ". According to the academic institution, "In a democratic country there is no place to arrest a person for such statements, no matter how outrageous they may be. We call for the immediate release of Professor Shalhoub-Kivorkian from detention."
