Claude Lastennet was a gentle young man with a smooth character. At least in appearance... The 23-year-old, good in all respects, was actually a serial killer who strangled and robbed five elderly women.
All his victims were over 72 and 92 years old and lived along the same bus line, the 172 south of Paris. A route which allowed the police to apprehend the man known as “The Old Lady Killer”. Apart from these crimes, the young man led a completely normal life so much so that his friends were shocked when he was arrested. Arrested at his home, he immediately confessed to his crimes and showed no remorse.
In this new issue of the program “At the end of the investigation”, called “Claude Lastennet Affair, the Taste of Blood” broadcast this Saturday, April 20 from 2 p.m., Marie Drucker returns to this surprising news item which takes place in the mid-1990s and traces it, as always, with the testimonies provided by the police officers who led the investigation, various lawyers and relatives of the victims and the killer.
Audience success and podcast
In addition to drawing the chronological thread of this bloody news story, the journalist deciphers other aspects of the case, whether psychological, historical, technical or sociological, with the help of criminology professor Alain Bauer. This Saturday, the specialist returns in particular to the important role played by the media in this story and returns, more broadly, to the interventions of the press and journalists in major criminal investigations.
Since its launch, the show has enjoyed great success and attracts an average of 1.2 million viewers every Saturday. On April 7, the program was even followed by more than 1.5 million people. So much so that France Télévisions decided to release it as a podcast since March 26. Fans can now find these investigations, news items and stories of serial killers in audio with insights from Marie Drucker and Alain Bauer. A new episode is launched every Tuesday.
