Thomas Dreßen has secured his second podium of the World Cup season. At the Super-G in Val Gardena, Italy, he surprisingly took third place.
For the 26-year-old, it is the second success story in his comeback season after his victory in the downhill from Lake Louise three weeks ago. He had almost completely missed last winter due to a serious knee injury.
"You saw how happy I was," he said to his reaction at the finish line, "I didn't expect that, I'll say it honestly, but of course I still like to take it with me."
In South Tyrol, Dreßen was 0.22 seconds slower than winner Vincent Kriechmayr from Austria on Friday. The Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud came second. The race was interrupted twice due to fog, for a total of almost two hours. In the end, only 48 of the 64 drivers were allowed to start. However, that was enough to officially evaluate the result.
Andreas Sander was ranked 12th, Josef Ferstl was 27th two years after his victory in Val Gardena. Dominik Schwaiger also had 29th World Cup points. Romed Baumann and Simon Jocher could no longer compete. They are now hoping for the departure on Saturday (11.45 a.m., TV: ZDF and Eurosport).
