The suspense is revived at the head of the Dakar at the end of the 9th stage disputed this Tuesday January 14 in Saudi Arabia. The Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel (Mini) engaged in a mano a mano with the Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota) which ended with a gap of only 15 seconds after 410 km of special.
Three steps from the end, the fight in the general classification between the three men is completely revived, the Spaniard Carlos Sainz retaining the lead only for 24 seconds before Al-Attiyah.
In motorcycles, the race resumed its rights after the cancellation of the eighth stage Monday after the death of the Portuguese biker Paulo Gonçalves. The Chilean Pablo Quintanilla (Husqvarna) won the special by beating the title holder, the Australian Toby Price (KTM), by 1 min 54 sec, and the Spanish Joan Barreda (Honda) by 2 min 42 sec.
