Bayern Munich beat their hosts Mainz today 3-1, advancing by one point in the top flight of the German Bundesliga.
Robert Lewandowski, the league's top scorer, opened the scoring in the eighth minute, scoring his 22nd goal in the competition, then Thomas Muller and Thiago Alcantara added two goals, lifting Bayern to 42 points, one point ahead of Razen Palsport Leipzig, who drew 2-2 with Borussia Monchengladbach.
Bayern set a record of 58 goals in the first 20 league games, which will reinforce the position of interim coach Hans Flick, whose future with the team is not clear.
