Ligue 1: Payet saves OM against Toulouse

2020-02-08T18:55:11.554Z

Unconvincing, Olympique de Marseille won this Saturday 1-0 against Toulouse, the last in Ligue 1, thanks to a gem from Dimitri Payet.

OM provides the essentials. Uninspired, Marseille overcomes TFC 1-0 and consolidates its second place in Ligue 1 (49 pts), with nine points ahead of Lille and Rennes, which receives Brest this Saturday evening. On the other hand, Toulouse (13 pts) sinks a little more to the last position.

What you must remember

The lack of concentration of the Marseille defenders from the first seconds of the match foreshadowed a difficult match for OM against the TFC, the last good in Ligue 1. Fortunately for the 52,000 spectators of the Orange-Velodrome, the Belgian striker Leya Iseka, short-lived in Marseille between 2016 and 2017, completely misses his face-to-face with Steve Mandanda (1st) on a missed lob and a slide which ends on the post. Five minutes later, the Marseille captain repulsed a taut shot from Boisgard.

Little inspired offensively and lacking in juice, OM must wait for additional time in the first period to see Radonjic frame the first strike of his team.

Only a clear genius could unlock this kind of meeting closed by double turn ... It came from Dimitri Payet. Already a goalscorer on Wednesday at Geoffroy-Guichard, the number 10 from Marseille blew up the Vélodrome with an axial strike outside the area which ended in Reynet's skylight (51st). Despite his good will, Toulouse does not manage to deceive a very feverish Marseille defense.

The player: Dimitri Payet

The Marseille playmaker is in international form. As in Saint-Etienne, Payet showed the way for his team through a personal achievement. He could even have scored a second goal but lacked precision against Reynet (85th).

Thanks to his eighth goal in Ligue 1 this season, the Reunion is the top scorer of his team ahead of Dario Benedetto (7) and Nemanja Radonjic (5).

The number: 10

OM are undefeated in their last ten home matches in Ligue 1 with 7 wins and 3 draws, their longest streak at the Orange Vélodrome in the elite for two years (September 2017 to March 2018 with 11 games without home defeat).
