They came with the goal of winning at least one game. But the SV Polling's over-50 stick shooters exceeded expectations - and even defeated the tournament winner.
Polling - For the first time ever, a SV Polling stick shooter team had qualified for the Bayern Cup. And there the U-50 team with Martin Sonner, Rainer Braun, Peter Tafertshofer and Robert Schuster scraped past a fist-thick surprise. Because the quartet almost qualified for the German Cup. In the end, the Pollingers finished tenth among 22 teams - a result that the SVP players were absolutely satisfied with.
Stick shooting: SV Polling in second place for a long time
The Pollinger had qualified for the competition of the best Bavarian teams via the district cup (1st place) and the district cup (2nd place). In Mitterteich "the goal was to win at least one game," SVP player Robert Schuster reported. The opposing teams played with players from the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga. However, the Pollingers mixed in the field much better than expected. Until the penultimate game, the quartet was in second place in its preliminary round group. Due to a defeat in the last game, the SVP fell back to fifth place. Only two points separated the team from third place - this would have meant the ticket for the German Cup in Krefeld.
Then there was a placement game for ninth against the fifth of the other group, the Bundesliga club EC Blau-Weiß March. Against the team, who competed with two European Cup winners, the Pollinger lost 5:24; however, satisfaction prevailed at the SVP. EC Moitzerlitz Regen won the title in a sovereign manner (with the world champions Thomas Rapp-König and Reinhold Stadler). The only defeat on this day was brought by SV Polling to the new Bayern Cup winner: in the preliminary round, the SVP had won 16:10.
