She wants to defend her title, which she won in Sindelfingen in 2019. The chances of this are very good: it is already the season's best. None of this was foreseeable in the summer of last year.
Let's go back to July 2019: The U 20 World Championships in Boras, Sweden should be the highlight of the season. But the German U20 champion suffered a muscle fiber tear in the semi-final over the 400 meters. From the dream of the finals.

When all medical examinations were finally completed in autumn and the doctors gave their okay, the sprinter started running again. In addition, there was also a difficult decision: the change of club from MTV Ingolstadt to LG Telis Regensburg, which incidentally was also carried out by Samuel Werdecker from Dorfen.
The reasons for this: The long successful MTV training group was dissolved. Some athletes had reduced their workload. The rest of those who wanted to stay in competitive sports also had to watch the training conditions deteriorate. So the career was blocked, training in the stadium was no longer possible.
With the LG relay at DM in Leipzig
The situation is completely different in Regensburg, where a 20 million euro athletics hall is to be built by 2022/23. "The LG is already an important club on the medium and long-distance distances and now wants to build something in the sprint area in Regensburg," explains Reinhard Köchl, who not only trains the 18-year-old with Ruth Mayer, but also Vice President of Bavarian Athletics - Association is.
A big advantage is the new team, to which Mona Mayer now belongs: Corinna Schwab (Chemnitz, born 1999), Katrin Fehm (Regensburg, 1998), Amelie Sophie Lederer (Fürth, 1994) and Maike Schachtschneider (Wattenscheid, 1994) are among them German lace. With them, Mona Mayer will contest the 200-meter relay at the adult DM in Leipzig the weekend after next. The chances are not bad: The LG relay is registered with the German best time. By the way, Schachtschneider came from Wattenscheid after a time-out due to injury and will work on the speed runs with Mayer.
Mona Mayer trains six times a week: three times in Munich, once in Regensburg and twice in the Erdinger weight room. The 18-year-old Hörlkofener is fully committed to competitive sports without neglecting school. The Abitur exams are due in May, “and Mona is also very ambitious there. At the moment, however, she is still in the fast lane on the track. Mona Mayer has already set a new best over 60 meters this year (7.78 sec).
