Arsène Wenger, current director of world football development at FIFA, spoke on Monday in Berlin at the ceremony for the Laureus World Sports Awards which recognize the sportsman of the year. He said he wanted to end the multiple controversies over the VAR about offside. "You would not be offside if any part of your body that can score a goal is aligned with the last defender, even if the rest of your body is in front," he suggested. The Alsatian also stressed that thus, the referees will no longer have to make decisions on an offside of a few millimeters.
To calm the controversies caused by the VAR, the former coach of the Gunners also wants that "the stadiums of all major leagues are required to install large screens to help fans understand the decisions made by the VAR". And according to him, if former players took their places behind the screens of the VAR, the decisions made thanks to video assistance would be improved. The proposals of the new director of the development of the world football of FIFA will be examined on February 29 by the International Football Association Board, in charge of the evolution of the rules of the game of football.
