Biathlon worlds: one more medal for France

2020-02-20T15:47:50.708Z

Emilien Jacquelin and Anaïs Bescond won the bronze medal in a simple mixed relay won, not surprisingly, by Norway.

And five for France! Despite the difficulties of the women's team, the Blues gleaned, this Thursday, a fifth medal at the World Championships organized in Antholz-Antersleva. Namely bronze during the simple mixed relay, an event which had integrated the program of the world championships last year. Preserved during the individual Wednesday, Emilien Jacquelin teamed up with Anaïs Bescond. A tandem prowled and already victorious this season at Pokljuka. Except that at the time, Norway had not aligned its "dream team" with Johannes Boe and Marte Olsbu Roeiseland. This was the case in Italy, with success since the Scandinavians dominated this mixed relay ahead of Germany and, therefore, France.

With an impeccable ten out of ten shooting on his first stint, Bescond had launched the hexagonal duo perfectly, before Jacquelin experienced some difficulties with three picks which rejected the Blues just under twenty seconds from the surprising Swiss, then leaders. On his second pass, Bescond needed an additional ball on the standing, which prevented him from joining the fight for victory between Germany, Norway and, still, Switzerland, in the pace . But the latter would eventually fall apart with Weger's four picks, which benefited an impeccable Jacquelin (ten out of ten) to climb onto the third step of the podium. The first being reserved for Boe, ruthless to win the German Lesser.

"I had a hard time putting myself in the first stint," said Jacquelin, already world pursuit champion at Antholz, after the fact. I think I was still in the continuation of my title, and I was very upset to make a bad stint when Anaïs had done the job. So I remobilized to get into it and at the finish, it's a medal. I am happy." Especially since he was missing a stick at one point, despite the very fair play intervention of a member of the Norwegian staff who fell while trying to give one to the French. For its part, Bescond, she appreciated the success of this duet with Jacquelin: “It is true that it works well. I know that Emilien is a great champion and we have had the opportunity to run together several times. I am really proud of this podium. ”
