Peiting - Six games are still to be played in the championship round of the Ice Hockey Oberliga Süd. Then the play-offs are coming up. EC Peiting also wants to qualify for this. This weekend the Peitingers can make their participation perfect. They welcome the Selber Wolves on Friday (7.30 p.m.) and are guests in Deggendorf on Sunday (6.45 p.m.). For coach Sebastian Buchwieser, the play-off participation would only be the next step.

"The first stage goal was relegation, the next are the play-offs," says the coach. "But we are not satisfied with that." The 40-year-old has not yet taken a look at the Oberliga Nord table and thus a possible second-round opponent. "The only sensible thing is to look at the next game," he says. And the Peitinger want to win that either way and expand their series to four victories. It would be the first time in the current season in regular season. Most recently, the Peitinger won against Rosenheim, in Memmingen and defeated Lindau.

"I was always confident that we could achieve victories in one go," says Buchwieser. "Only we lacked a last bit of quality in tight games." With Anton Saal and Nardo Nagtzaam, things are different now. However, the trainer doesn't want to attribute everything to the two. "We changed our game system in a very short time," he reports. "It usually takes at least one season." The ECP has now designed his game more on the counterattack. Nonetheless, it does matter to have players in your ranks who can do something offensively and defensively.

The Peitinger injured list will not be shortened further this weekend. Since there is also no support for promotion license players from Kaufbeuren, peiting has to make do with a maximum of 16 field players. "We are used to that now," says Buchwieser. And the Peitingen have been successful lately.

Buchwieser expects two difficult games

Buchwieser finds the performance of the Selber Wolves "a bit disappointing" this season. The change of trainer about three weeks ago also had no effect. However, he warns: "It will be difficult, we cannot allow a counterattack." The "wolves" have players in their ranks who can decide a game.

The same applies to the Deggendorfer SC. The DEL2 relegation was actually a top favorite for the championship title in the Oberliga Süd. The DSC is currently a bit away from this, even slipping to third place in the table. "I don't know what's going on," says Buchwieser. "With Deggendorf it depends on the form of the day, we have already experienced it differently." With 1: 6, the Peitingen received a good smack against Deggendorf in early December. Buchwieser expects to meet a strong DSC again this time.
