The handball women of the TSV Weilheim were once again stingy with goals. Nevertheless, it was enough to win against TSV Mindelheim - after an exciting final phase.

Weilheim - For the third time in a row, the Weilheim handball women failed to break the 20-goal mark. Thanks to an outstanding defense performance, it was enough to win in the district league home game against TSV Mindelheim. With 15:14 (9: 9) Weilheim had the upper hand against the sixth in the table from the Allgäu. "These are very important points in the relegation battle," said assistant coach Alex Wimmer after the third victory in the second half of the season.

For the coach, it was clear: "The defense won the game for us." He was less satisfied with the offensive: "We partially ended too early, the attacks did not finish properly, and the chances of winning were poor."

The hostesses started quickly. After a short time they were 3: 1 (4th) in the front. Five minutes later, however, the lead was gone. As a result, the game remained balanced. No team managed to break away with more than one goal until the break.

TSV Weilheim: narrow margin saved to the finish

After the change, the Weilheimers ran after a small gap, which, however, did not assume any threatening proportions because goalkeeper Marlene Zwiekopf blocked two seven-meter and other good opportunities for the guests. Her sister Elisabeth Zwiekopf then took the 14:12 lead (47th) with a double strike. Afterwards, the hosts missed to increase the lead. Numerous opportunities remained untapped. The Mindelheim women, who let the ball spin in almost every attack until the time game, came three minutes before the end of the game. With a lot of struggle and effort, the women from Weilheim ultimately brought the wafer-thin lead over time.

Statistics: TSV Weilheim players: Elisabeth Zwiekopf (4 goals), Katrin Wichtl (2), Lea Stadler (2/1 seven meters), Veronika Melypataki (1), Sabrina Gerold (1), Anne Apelt (1), Andrea Pruy (1 ), Luca-Sophie Padberg (1), Anna Strobl (1), Sarah Mannefeld (1/1), Anita Tratz, Sabrina Pudil; Goal: Marlene Zwiekopf, Veronika Bauer.
