Berlin (dpa) - With a German record, the four-wheeler at the start of the World Championships in Berlin made the Olympic qualification perfect.

Felix Groß (Leipzig), Theo Reinhardt (Berlin), Nils Schomber (Neuss) and Domenic Weinstein (Villingen) needed 3: 50.304 minutes to qualify for the 4000m team pursuit, beating the old record by 0.861 seconds.

The German team can no longer be taken away from the Olympic ticket. The Danish foursome even set a world record in 3: 46.579 minutes. The quartet was 1.433 seconds faster than the Australian team on their world record drive a year ago in Pruszkow.

The German team drove the sixth fastest time overall and in the evening can hope to make it into the medal runs. Germany has been waiting for a medal in the former parade discipline since 2002.

For women, only the seventh place for the German team came out in qualification. Franziska Brauße (Öschelbronn), Lisa Brennauer (Durach), Lisa Klein (Erfurt) and Gudrun Stock (Munich) managed to get ahead with it, but the fight for a medal requires an increase.
