Weilheim - The coaching change made by the Weilheim basketball players five matchdays before the end of the season has had an effect. Under returning Darryl Millwood, the TSV men ended their three-game losing streak in the home game against the "Fibalon Baskets" Neumarkt. The Weilheimer won against the direct competitor in the fight for the relegation of the 2nd Regionalliga Süd with 73:51 (36:26).
Coach Millwood did not want to overstate his contribution. "It wasn't me, it was the team," he said. The department management was also relieved: “With only four games remaining, success was extremely important,” said division head Florian Willkomm, who had agreed on a separation with the previous coach Benedikt Schiebilski during the week and even back in the squad was standing. "Flo gave the team a lot of stability," was Millwood's praise for his veteran. Otherwise he did not want to emphasize anyone. The home side's defensive was already bombproof in the first quarter, so that the guests only got six points. The Weilheimer, on the other hand, could hardly be stopped. Andy Thumser in particular, with his three three-pointers, played a large part in a comfortable 22: 6 lead after ten minutes. Neumarkter grew stronger in the second quarter. By the halfway point, they reduced the gap to ten points. "But after the change we started," said Willkomm about a 15: 3 run by his team, with which the home side got air again. Alex Thumser contributed eight points. The guests from the Upper Palatinate did not surrender despite being 20 points behind. This evening, however, there was no herb against the Weilheim defense wall, which blocked balls again and again or earned ball wins during rebounds.
After the lead had shrunk briefly to 13 points, the TSV men then pulled away again with hits from Matthias Modrok. The decision was finally made at 65:45 (36th). There was a little bit of bitterness in the end, because the 22-point lead of the Weilheimers was not quite enough to make up for the 92: 115 defeat from the first leg. If there was a tie at the end of the season, Neumarkt would now be ahead of Weilheim in the table.
