Mannheim (AP) - New coach Martin Schwalb wants to bring the handball Bundesliga club Rhein-Neckar Löwen back to the national top and shape it into a distinctive brand.
"I'm not a fantastic, I'm a realist. But the goal must be to win all the games," said the 56-year-old when he was officially introduced. "And one should recognize: This is where the Rhein-Neckar Löwen come."
Managing Director Jennifer Kettemann confirmed that Schwalb signed a contract with the Mannheimers until summer 2021. The former international, who won Olympic silver with the DHB selection in 1984, is really looking forward to his job with the German champions in 2016 and 2017. "I'm totally involved in the action and I'm into the coaching bench, you can see that not imagine, "he said. "I am a trainer at heart, I always have been."
Schwalb currently has his debut as a lion coach in the EHF Cup group game against the Spanish representative Liberbank Cuenca.
