Four games are still to be played in the championship round of the Oberliga Süd. And they have it all for EC Peiting. Two derbies are waiting this weekend.

Peiting - The upcoming weekend is a play-off for the EC Peiting. There are two derbies pending - and of all things against the two table neighbors. In the championship round of the Ice Hockey Oberliga Süd, the ECP is a guest at SC Riessersee, currently fifth, on Friday evening (8 p.m.). On Sunday (6 p.m.) the Peitinger will receive the table seventh, EV Füssen, in the home ice rink.

"The games are very important in the fight for fifth place," says ECP coach Sebastian Buchwieser. The fact that the Peitingen still have a chance at fifth place is thanks to the last five wins in a row. "Of course, the returnees are good," says the coach. "But the team plays as a whole more disciplined." The coach is certain that if everyone adheres to the plan and fights, the ECP could also beat better opponents. In addition, his team had greatly improved the counter tactics compared to the previous season.

Martin Mazanec returns to the squad

Martin Mazanec is another top performer returning to the squad for the blast weekend. The Czech was signed up early in the season and quickly established itself in Peiting. With a hand injury, the defender was last over a month. Against Riessersee he should play with Alexander Winkler again. "This is a proven duo," Buchwieser says of the two defenders. Otherwise nothing changes in the squad. Buchwieser hopes for support from the Kaufbeuren promotion license players.

Either way, he sees SC Riessersee as the favorite. With EHC Munich in the background, the SCR would actually have the strongest squad in the league, said Buchwieser. In addition, the Riesserseers have an even longer winning streak than the ECP: they recently celebrated six successes in one go. The Peitinger want to counter this with duel and running strength and lurk on the counterattack.

Game against feet has "pre-decisive character" for Peiting

The duel against the EV feet also had a "decisive character" in the fight for the placements. In the meantime, the old master experienced a dry spell with five losses in a row. "But the Füssen people have caught up again," says Buchwieser. Three wins in a row, crowned with a 7: 5 win against the top team from Rosenheim, are the best proof of this.

But the Peitinger don't need to hide. Because they go into the penultimate weekend of the Oberliga championship round with a lot of self-confidence. "And that's the most important thing in ice hockey," says the coach.

Against Deggendorfer SC, Peiting turned the game and won 6: 3.
