Europa League Draw: Inter-Getafe and Sevilla-Roma in the round of 16

2020-02-28T16:30:38.283Z

Tall duels for the two Spanish representatives in the second continental competition

Getafe will face Inter Milan and Sevilla against Roma after the draw for the round of 16 of the Europa League, held in Nyon. The second European competition enters its decisive phase, where teams from the same country could already cross and there are no heads of series. The matches of this knockout round will be played next Thursday, March 12 and 19. The Spanish teams have not had much luck in the draw, since Inter Milan and Rome are two teams of enormous potential. However, the level of the teams at this stage of the competition is already quite high.

Getafe, after eliminating an entire European champion like Ajax, will now face another continental champion, an Inter who fell from the Champions League and is a top favorite for the victory in the Europa League. In principle, it will be a complicated displacement for Getafe fans, since Milan is one of the foci of the coronavirus. In fact, the clash played by the Italians against Ludogorest was held behind closed doors. In any case, it is a high level tie. It is the first time that Getafe faces an Italian team.

Sevilla will face Rome. This is a very special tie for Monchi. The sports director of the Andalusian team worked for two years on the Italian team (from 2017 to 2019) before returning to Seville last summer. "It is a very complicated tie, although we will go for them. It is a team that has great players, it is a team with history, with a great hobby behind ... But we will go for them," said Fernando Navarro, own assistant Monchi in the technical secretariat of the Andalusian cadre. "He is a very complicated opponent. We know him very well, especially Monchi, who was there working. It will be a very balanced tie between two great teams, eager to move to the quarterfinals," said Julen Lopetegui, coach of the Andalusian team. "I think we know each other too well that there are surprises. I know Paulo Fonseca of the Portuguese League," added the Sevilla coach, who played down the fact of playing the round of the tie in Rome. The first leg will be played at 6:55 p.m. (at Sánchez Pizjuán) and the return will take place at 9:00 p.m. at the Olympic Stadium in Rome. It should be noted that Sevilla already eliminated Lazio last season in the Europa League.

The rest of the clashes in these eighths of the Europa League are the Rangers-Leverkusen; Lask (Austria) -Manchester United; Basaksehir-Copenhagen; Olympiacos-Wolwes; Wolsfburg-Shakthar; and the winner of Eintracht-Salzburg in front of Basel.
