Berlin (dpa) - Roger Kluge and Theo Reinhardt won the bronze medal in the Madison at the World Track Cycling Championships in Berlin. The title was won by the Danes Michael Mørkøv and Lasse Norman Hansen on Sunday. There had been a lot of excitement about Mørkøv in advance.
After arriving in Berlin on Thursday, the 34-year-old was initially isolated in his hotel room because he had previously participated in the UAE tour. The tour had been canceled due to the possible illness of two Italian members of a team due to the novel coronavirus. After all tests were negative, the Dane was able to start.
Mørkøv and Hansen won 62 points ahead of New Zealanders Campbell Stewart and Aaron Gate (33). Kluge / Reinhardt came to 32 points. The German duo thus missed the third title in a row, which would have been a novelty in this discipline.
For the German team, it was the seventh medal in the title fight in the Velodrom and the first in the men's area.
