Rome (dpa) - All sporting events in Italy will initially take place without an audience due to the spread of the corona virus. Further contagions should be avoided, said Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in a video message to the country. According to media reports, this applies until April 3.
In addition to the football games in Serie A, the Champions League game of Juventus against Olympique Lyon on March 17 and the Europa League games of Inter Milan against Getafe (12th) and AS Roma are also affected against FC Sevilla (19.3.). The return leg of Inter in Getafe on March 19 must also take place in camera.
Due to the exclusion of spectators, the classic bike Milan-Sanremo is threatened with cancellation on March 21. The World Cup final for alpine skiers in Cortina (March 18-22) is also excluded from spectators.
In Italy there are most cases of Covid-19 lung disease. Around 3100 people have been infected with the virus, and more than 100 have already died. Several Serie A and Cup football matches had recently been postponed.
