Four of the seven candidacies for the presidency of the French Federation of Ice Sports (FFSG) were validated this Wednesday. The election of Didier Gailhaguet's successor, forced to resign a month ago and swept away by an unprecedented wave of revelations of sexual violence in French skating, is scheduled for March 14 in Paris.
In addition to that of the former ice dancer Nathalie Péchalat, the candidatures of the president of the club of Angers Damien Boyer-Gibaud, mounted on the front line to call for the departure of Gailhaguet, the short-track trainer Gilles Jouanny and the 'ex-bobsledder Michel-Ange Marie-Calixte have been validated, as the FFSG indicates in a press release.
The three candidacies of the former international figure skating judge Marie-Reine Le Gougne, the former short-track world champion Marc Bella and Hubert Godefroy, former vice-president of the FFSG and ex-president of the Federal Council, on the other hand "were not retained because they do not comply with the criteria mentioned in our statutes", specifies the FFSG. "This shows that my candidacy is disturbing, gets carried away by Marie-Reine Le Gougne, who goes to the CNOSF. It is a political sanction. We want to see Nathalie Péchalat win, but it would be a disaster. "
Candeloro candidate for the Federal Council
Two seats on the Federal Council, the federation's supervisory and control body, are also to be filled. Among the twelve successful candidates, is that of former skater champion Philippe Candeloro.
“In accordance with our statutes, the electoral operations monitoring committee met on March 1 and 3 to verify the validity of candidacies for the post of president of the FFSG and member of the Federal Council. The conclusions of this commission were ratified by the president of the federal council ”, explains the FFSG.
