Women's French Tournament: mission accomplished for Les Bleues against Canada

2020-03-04T18:42:35.181Z

For their entry into this newly created FFF event, the French women's team won by a short header (1-0)

Les Bleues were present for this first meeting of the Tournoi de France, an event created by the FFF to ride the wave of enthusiasm from the last World Cup in France.

Maintained despite the coronavirus epidemic, the competition therefore opened in Calais on Wednesday in front of 7000 spectators and by a short 1-0 success for France (4th in the Fifa ranking) before Canada (8th). Next meeting for the Blue ones this Saturday (9 pm) against Brazil at the Hainaut stadium in Valenciennes for the revenge of the 8th final of the World Cup.

What you must remember

For her first composition of 2020, Corinne Diacre decided to leave Eugénie Le Sommer on the bench because of a glitch in the calf and to align the Katoto point instead of the usual Gauvin. Returned to grace after being dismissed from the World Cup and rather restless, the nugget of the PSG did not have a lot of ammunition to bite their teeth despite the tri-color domination, if not a head stung on the goalkeeper (45th + 2) or a strike countered by Lyonnaise Buchanan (56th).

It is also all of the French women who have been timid or clumsy in the last twenty meters. It took a direct free kick from Bordeaux Viviane Asseyi to unlock the situation (55th). The entry of Le Sommer will not have allowed the Blue, never worried, to be much more dangerous. The Lyonnaise remains one unit from the record of Marinette Pichon, top scorer in the history of the French women's team with 81 goals.

The player: Viviane Asseyi

Taking advantage of the absence in the eleven of Le Sommer, the 26-year-old Bordeaux girl did not miss the opportunity to score points. Fairly active in the midfield, in an unusual axial position for her, she properly honored her 40th selection in the A team by scoring her 7th goal.

The number: 15

The Blue have scored at least one goal in their last fifteen games. The last three-goal scoreless match dates back to February 2019 during a defeat against Germany (0-1). Since their elimination (1-2) in the quarterfinals of the World by the future American champions, the Deacon players have scored sixteen goals for none conceded in five games.
