Leverkusen (dpa) - Bayer Leverkusen has given an impressive signal in the fight for the Champions League spots in the Bundesliga.

In the duel between the semi-finalists of the cup, the Werkself won over the outstanding Kai Havertz and Paulinho against Eintracht Frankfurt 4: 0 (2: 0) and thus also the seventh home game in 2020 across all competitions. Karim Bellarabi (15th) and starting debut Paulinho (49th / 55th) scored the goals for Leverkusen. The victory was marred by the injury of defense chief Sven Bender, who twisted his knee and might be out for a long time.

Eintracht, which, like Bayer, is still in the round of 16 of the Europa League, must, after the third defeat in a row and as the weakest away team in the league, go down again. As in the previous year at 1: 6, the guests in Leverkusen had a poor start and lost significantly in the end.

Bosz 'move with Havertz in the front quickly paid off: After a cross by Moussa Diaby, Havertz pushed the ball with the right foot over the line in the style of a real goal scorer. Exactly 189 seconds were played there. It was immediately clear that the 70th Bundesliga duel between the two teams would not remain goalless. This is a Bundesliga record.

At Eintracht, meanwhile, bitter memories of the duel awoke in May, when Havertz had already taken the lead in the second minute and it was already 1-6 after 36 minutes. Bellarabi's 2-0 after submitting Paulinho, who started for the first time in a Bundesliga game, fell just two minutes later: In May, today's Julian Julian had hit in the 13th minute.

The Frankfurt team, who started quite actively and had two chances early on thanks to Daichi Kamada (2nd) and Filip Kostic (16th), were now a little lower. Nothing went forward, however.

Bayer was also undeterred by the end of the second Benders - Sven's twin brother Lars was already missing in the third competitive game due to a fascia tear in the thigh - and also got a blitz start after the break. Havertz's second goal was denied for offside, then Paulinho scored first after a one-two with Bellarabi and then after a dream pass from Havertz.

Paulinho had previously scored only one goal in 21 Bundesliga appearances and had not prepared one. Havertz was allowed to leave the field after 62 minutes and spare himself for the coming weeks. His colleagues also took it easy afterwards.
