Felix Karpfinger won gold at the European Ice Stock Championship in Regen with the German national team. However, it was not enough to win an individual medal.
Wörth / Regen - Nothing came of a second medal at the European Championships for Felix Karpfinger. The 15-year-old Wörther, who had won gold in the long-range team competition with the German national team in the Lower Bavarian region of Regen, had to be satisfied with fifth place in the singles. His teammate and co-favorite Johannes Michl was unbeatable.
"I just didn't get into the competition," said a Karpfinger, who was depressed immediately after the competition and started with a moderate 95.73 meters. In contrast to the competition: Above all, the two Austrians Andreas Knaus (106.81 m) and Angelo Dorner (103.25 m) set huge brands. The Wörther increased to 99.76 meters, but then nothing worked at all.
1000 spectators: Karpfinger enthusiastic about Regener Halle
Karpfinger's eternal competitor Michl, on the other hand, knocked one out in the third round, and the stick only came to a halt after 108.99 m. The competitors bite their teeth at this brand. The Wörther, reigning German champion, even had to let his teammate Kilian Reschberger from EC Lampoding pass, who came to 99.88 m. Finally, the Austrian Markus Nimmrichter came in sixth with 92.15 m.
Karpfinger was enthusiastic about the atmosphere in the Regener Halle. "Full house, I guess around 1000 spectators," he said. In retrospect, after the first disappointment, he was satisfied. After all, he and the team have become European champions, and now this gold medal shines particularly well.
