The young biathletes determined their German youth champions in the Chiemgau Arena in Ruhpolding. Also there was Stephanie Oppenrieder from Eberfing, who had some bad luck, especially in the mass start.
Eberfing - The Chiemgau Arena in Ruhpolding was the venue for the German Youth Championship in biathlon and the final in the Germany Cup. Sprint, mass start and the relay were on the program. Also there was Eberfingerin Stephanie Oppenrieder, who ended up in the middle of the range for young women in the “18/19” age group.
Oppenrieder finished the sprint over 6.0 kilometers in 21st place among 30 starters. She hit all targets in prone shooting, two targets remained in the standing position. After 21: 59.4 minutes, the athlete from SC Murnau crossed the finish line. Johanna Puff (19: 22.8 / 2 penalties) took victory from SC Bayrischzell, Selina Kastl (SC Neubau / 0 penalties) by 0.5 seconds.
Ruhpolding: Oppenrieder in sprint in 21st place
In the mass start over 8.0 kilometers, Oppenrieder finished 19th. The high school student built a significantly better result during the last shooting: There she made three mistakes - that meant a total of 450 meters in the penalty loop. Before the last standing attack, the boar finger had brought 13 out of 15 shots to the target. With a total time of 28: 08.8 minutes, she reached the goal. Gold went to Puff again, who had a whopping 27.3 seconds advantage over the second in 24: 08.5 minutes (4 mistakes).
Ruhpolding: Oppenrieder in mass start in 19th place
In the relay over 3 x 6 kilometers on the final day, Oppenrieder ran together with Lena Haslach (SK Nesselwang) and Anna Jocher (SC Partenkirchen). The trio finished eleventh in 16 seasons with a time of 1:14: 16.0 hours. Oppenrieder was flawless in both shoots and was the fastest in her team with 24: 16.3 minutes.
In the overall ranking of the German Cup - where the results from a total of nine races were incorporated - Oppenrieder took 24th place out of 34 ranks. The boar finger took part in nine races and scored 63 points. The superior winner was Emilie Behringer (SC Todtmoos) with 154 points. She won three times a day. Johanna Pfuff (SC Bayrischzell) was the best Bavarian with 135 points in fourth place.
Final in the Alpine Cup takes place in Pokljuka
Oppenrieder trains at the base in Kaltenbrunn. The 29 athletes that the team led by coach Bernhard Kröll had taken to Ruhpolding took 14 medals. In the youngsters Selina Grotian (Ak 16) from SC Mittenwald won gold with the relay and silver in sprint and mass start. Raphael Heiland (Ak 16) from SC Partenkirchen became German mass start champion.
For the young biathletes, the Alpine Cup final with a sprint and a super individual is scheduled for mid-March. The competition, in which athletes from several countries take part, takes place in Pokljuka (Slovenia). The adult World Cup will take place there in 2021.
