Tournament of France: Les Bleues want to finish in beauty against Dutch under pressure

2020-03-09T13:56:03.487Z

Already victorious in the Tournoi de France with two successes in two matches, the Bleues face the players from the Netherlands, European champions and vice-world champions on Tuesday.

With their first two victories, the French are already guaranteed to win the first French Tournament. After Canada (1-0) on Wednesday, the players of Corinne Diacre overcame Brazil, by the same score (1-0) this weekend. It is Valérie Gauvin, the Montpellier striker, who scored with his head the only goal of the meeting. This Tuesday, the Blue will therefore face the Netherlands, third in the FIFA ranking, at the end of the tournament, in Valenciennes (9 p.m.). The match will be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus epidemic, as Sports Minister Roxana Maracineanu said at a press conference on Monday.

Les Bleues in search of offensive efficiency

The players of the France team, already assured of the title in this friendly tournament, want to close the competition in style against the Dutch on Tuesday, as assured by Valérie Gauvin, after the victory against Brazil: "Now we have the aim to make three wins. It is not because we won this evening that we will relax for the next game. ”

Even with good work on the sides during the first two games of the tournament, especially on the left with the Majri-Karchaoui duo, the Blue are woefully ineffective in the last passes and in front of goal. While Corinne Diacre noted that her players had "managed to score in the game" against Brazil, the tricolor players will have to be more effective in their offensives if they want to finish on a good note against the Netherlands.

Note that Lyonnaise Delphine Cascarino will be forfeited for this last match, following a slight pain in the thigh during the match against Seleçao. Uncertain presence also for the tricolor goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin who did not participate in the training of the group on Sunday. Assured of having the title, Corinne Diacre will therefore be able to rotate the workforce and play those who have not yet had the opportunity to express themselves on the field, in particular Solène Durand and Estelle Cascarino.

Oranje find it difficult to confirm their status

Reigning European champions and vice world champions, the Dutch are currently third in the FIFA ranking behind the Americans and the Germans. But the players of Sarina Wiegman are struggling to assume this new status, as shown by their last performances during the Tournoi de France: two draws without any goal.

Faced with the Brazilian, the orange team failed to find the way to the nets despite many opportunities (0-0). On Saturday, against a more inspired Canada, the Dutch record a new draw (0-0), but they were able to be solid and united, after being reduced to ten at the start of the second half, following the red card from their young caretaker Lize Kop.

In addition to the pressure of their new status at the international level, the Oranje face several physical glitches. They will have to do without their midfielder Danielle Van de Donk, injured ankle on Saturday against Canada, and Vivianne Miedema, the young striker top Dutch striker in history at only 23 years old, victim of a pain in the thigh after Brazil. The coronavirus did not spare the Dutch selection either: PSV Eidhoven defender Aniek Nouwen was repatriated to the Netherlands as a precaution since she had many of the symptoms of the covid-19 epidemic. The Dutch therefore have only one match left to show what they are capable of.
