Forced footballers to reason: BFV stops playing "according to orders from the state government"

The BFV has now reacted and - like almost all associations before it - has stopped playing until April 19. The trainers from the Würmtal had suspected that.

Würmtal - Well, after all, after all the other sports associations in the Free State, the largest, the Bavarian Football Association (BFV), decided yesterday to suspend the game until mid-April due to the rampant corona virus. It is significant that the BFV only did this in accordance with the "clear instructions and requirements of the state government", which declared the disaster and "prohibited any sports business in Bavaria", as stated in a press release.

Previously, the football association had initially put the game operations on hold until next Monday, March 23. Now the game should not resume before April 19, the end of the Easter holidays.

Coronavirus: Trainers in the Würmtal had anticipated the BFV measure

The fact that the BFV is now extending the ban to a further four weeks is anything but unexpected for the clubs in the Würmtal. The majority of the trainers had already hoped for it or expected it. For example, Andreas Budell from district classist SV Planegg-Krailling II. "An end to the break is only in sight when the virus has been contained," said the coach last Friday after the BFV reported for the first time that the game would cease for a week. Franz Möhwald was also certain that it would not remain on March 23. "This is just really rolling towards us," warned the coach of A-Classist TSV Pentenried.

A problem has now solved itself for league competitor TV Stockdorf. The municipality of Gauting had already banned sports activities on the club grounds until April 19. This would have put TVS footballers in a quandary about their home games and the necessary training sessions.

Corona virus: what's next in football? "Written in the stars"

With its new measure, the BFV - like all other associations - initially bought a little time to observe how the spread of the corona virus developed. How things will continue after the Easter holidays "is in the stars," Maximilian Reid aptly formulates. The coach of district league team TSV Neuried, like many of his colleagues, would like the game to continue.

The BFV wants to decide whether this will work as early as possible. The resumption will “only take place with a notice of at least 14 days,” says the press release. The background is that the association wants "to give all clubs in Bavaria plenty of planning security".

The BFV's credo should be: after Easter or no more

It seems unlikely that the season will continue later - in May at the earliest. The schedule of footballers doesn't give that much buffer. Accordingly, the creed should be: after Easter or not at all. But Uwe Lehner, trainer of district classicist Gautinger SC, sums it up: "Speculating now doesn't work."
