SCAN SPORT - The boss of a Turkish club has warned of a suspension of the championship, saying that the number of divorces would explode in a country in love with football.

While the sports world is at a standstill due to the coronavirus epidemic, Ahmet Agaolu, president of the football club Trabzonspor, explains that without football, the number of divorces would increase sharply. “In Turkey, football is what allows people to relieve their stress, to have fun, to occupy their minds. If we suspend the championship, within a month, we will no longer find enough judges to pronounce divorces, "he explained.

These statements, made on Sunday, come as more and more voices are raised asking for the suspension of the Turkish championship in order to limit the risk of spreading the Covid-19. Last week, the Turkish authorities had already imposed a closed door in the stadiums until the end of April, a measure deemed insufficient for players and coaches. “All the main championships in the world have been suspended. The truth is, it's about our lives, mine, you, the players. All of our lives are at risk, ”said Fatih Terim, Galatasaray coach. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) is scheduled to meet on Tuesday to study the issue.

On social networks, many internet users predict a baby boom in nine months following confinement, due to the coronavirus. But the reality seems to be quite different, especially in China: an increase in divorces, according to the RFI correspondent in Beijing. Indeed, this jump would be due to the long hours spent in solitary confinement which would lead to a greater number of arguments in the couple and consequently, to a greater number of divorces. So divorces or baby boom? Answers in a few months ...

In France, Marlène Schiappa, the Secretary of State responsible for Equality between women and men, alerted to "home confinement (...) breeding ground conducive to domestic violence" in a statement published Monday. She said that she would strengthen "barrier measures" to continue welcoming women victims of violence.
