Coach salaries: Simeone at the top, Tuchel only Ligue 1 coach

2020-03-23T17:18:50.883Z

France Football announced in its latest issue the names of the highest paid coaches in the world. The opportunity to see that Diego Simone largely occupies the first place in a ranking where only Thomas Tuchel represents Ligue 1.

Exploit it at a price. Fallen from the title holder Liverpool in the knockout stages of the Champions League, Atlético Madrid signed a resounding performance thanks in particular to a man: Diego Simeone. But to offer the services of the Argentine coach, the colchoneros leaders had to take out the checkbook, as shown in France Football in its latest edition.

Extended until 2022 in Madrid, Diego Simeone is like last year at the top of the ranking of the highest paid coaches in the world. But what attracts attention in this list is the gap with the other coaches. With a salary of 40.5 million euros gross (22 million net) each year, El Cholo is more than 10 million ahead of his runner-up, Antonio Conte. The Italian receives 20.2 million euros from Inter Milan, to which must be added the € 9.8 million won in court against Chelsea, his former employer.

A classification largely dominated by the Premier League

The two coaches have the distinction of receiving these huge salaries away from the Premier League. Because for the rest, England largely dominates the rest of the ranking. In Manchester City, Pep Guardiola earns 22 million euros per year, to which we must add 5 million thanks to his sponsors, which makes him the third highest paid coach in the world behind Simeone and Conte. He is ahead of two other Premier League coaches: Jürgen Klopp (24 million, Liverpool) and José Mourinho (23 million, Tottenham). It is also the first time in 15 years that the Portuguese has not been on the podium in this ranking.

In addition to Guardiola, Klopp and Mourinho, they are five other coaches to officiate, or to have officiated, in the Premier League in this Top 20 (Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini, Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer). Far from the Premier League, Ligue 1 places only one coach in this ranking in the person of Parisian coach Thomas Tuchel (18th, 8.5 M €), two if we count Leonardo Jardim, landed from Monaco at the start of the season (14th, 10.2 M €). The first Frenchman in the ranking is Zinedine Zidane, fifth tied thanks to his salary of 21 million euros at Real Madrid and his 2 million sponsorship. Finally, we must highlight the entry into this Top 20 by Bruno Génésio. The former Lyonnais coach occupies the last place thanks to a salary of 8 million euros in Beijing.
