While a large part of Ligue 1 clubs have already opted for partial unemployment, like Marseille, Lyon, Monaco or Bordeaux, Paris Saint-Germain has also decided to take the plunge. According to L'Equipe , the management of the capital club announced it on Wednesday evening and specified that it would first consult the staff and administration delegates of the club.
With this device, the PSG will be able to pay 70% of the gross salary of its employees and be reimbursed by the State, the equivalent of 4.5 times the minimum wage. This sum, about 5,400 euros, is nothing compared to the huge payroll of Neymar and his Parisian teammates. Indeed, according to figures from the sports daily, it amounted to 371 million euros for an annual budget of 637 million during the past season.
A drop in the salaries of Parisian players?
With the suspension of Ligue 1 due to the coronavirus epidemic, football clubs lose all their revenues related to TV rights, ticketing, and sales of shirts and derivative products. Nasser al-Khelaïfi, the president of Paris SG, had announced at the beginning of the week to be in favor of a reduction in the wages of the players in order to limit these financial losses of the club.
