Tokyo 2020 Olympics opens July 23, 2021 • What does this mean for the World Championships scheduled for next summer and what will the athletes do in the coming year?

Last night, the Olympic Committee and the Japanese government announced the new date for the Tokyo Olympics. 2020 Make a note of logs (but don't make plans, because everything can change): 23.07.2021 to 08.08.2021 is the new date for the games.

In recent days, the possibility of holding the games next spring has arisen, but given the expected sporting load in the coming year and the desire to let the Japanese deal with the corona virus even if God forbid next winter, it was decided to leave the games at their original date.

But now the problems for both bodies are starting, it's Olympic and it's Japanese. On the sports side, next summer important world championships are expected in various industries, and they will of course be canceled after the committee has reached agreement with the various committees and organizations. In addition, the criteria problem arises: Only three branches of the Olympic family closed the list of participants for the games.

The other industries will have to find out when to hold the criterion competitions, if any, in the coming year. The US Olympic Committee raised the problem that would overwhelm all committees: "Are those who have actually been exempt from any competition in the coming year?" The Americans talked about perhaps opening up some competitions in some industries.

The Israeli committee should also face the same problems. Take, for example, Sagi Muki, who was to come to Tokyo 2020 as a medal candidate. What will it look like in Tokyo 2021, and what about the women in Israeli judo, where the final criterion is not set at all?

For veteran athletes like Alex Stilov, who planned to end their career right after the Olympics, a year's rejection could make the difference between more Olympic games and those that never happen.

In general, this Olympics was to be the last Olympian of Yigal Carmi, the current Olympic committee chairman, and will now have to decide at the sports centers that the replacements will be postponed for 2022, which will make the next chairman only two years to prepare for the next delegation.

And of course there is the economic thing. Japan will hold elections this October, and the current administration has boasted primarily of its sporting achievements over the years. The peak of the campaign was supposed to be the Olympic Games, of course, but now political commentators in Japan raise the possibility that postponing the games and the economic costs that are about to emerge can decide the election, as all campaigns are about to change.

Japan is already talking about not being allowed to host the "cursed games", given that even in the 1940s the Olympic Games that the country was about to host were canceled. At the same time, the Olympic Committee is licking its image and economic wounds.

The mighty body, capable of overcoming two world wars, the murder of athletes in Munich in 1972 and a terrorist attack on the Atlanta Games, 1996 will have to hope this time for the post-Corona Olympics - which will undoubtedly attract fewer tourists to Tokyo, but gain millions of new TV viewers - will once again create the magic She knows how to do it.
