Warngau - For SV Warngau footballers, this year's A-class second half of the season should have been a very special one. The goal: to make the ascent to the circle class perfect. However, the Corona crisis has also got in the way of this project in the past few weeks. Why, unlike other clubs from the district, Warngauer did not just have to be sent home from the foreign training camp and why football is going so well, captain Bernhard Estner explains in an interview with our newspaper.

Mr. Estner, a few weeks ago would you have thought that the corona virus made team sport impossible?

No not true. I think very few people initially thought that this virus would take on such proportions and have such an extreme impact on everyday life.

Was the virus an issue in the team early on or did you take it lightly?

I think - and this will not only have been the case with us - that fun was occasionally made about it. But it all happened before these dimensions were foreseen. Ultimately, we just wanted to start preparing for the second half of the season as normal. We were able to do that in the first two to three weeks.

How did it come to a head then?

After the first two and a half weeks, you noticed that you had to deal with the corona virus. Like the years before, the club and the trainer put together a very good and varied preparation, and the most important days should have followed with a training camp.

Where would it have gone

Four days in Medulin, Croatia were planned. There were some talks and player meetings the week before because going abroad was extremely critical at this point. When the borders were closed, Croatia practically relieved us of the decision, and the thing was done - the BFV advised against practicing on sports fields almost at the same time, which was then prohibited. We are currently in contact with the hotel to clarify everything else.

Before the current crisis, things went pretty well in terms of sport. What has changed in the club since Daniel Mayer was on the sidelines as a coach?

The Daniel is a real stroke of luck for SV Warngau. After a not so successful recent past, he immediately managed to put together a squad hungry for success and above all a broad one. He set great goals for us right from the start and instilled us in where to go - that's what sets him apart. In addition, the team spirit and the climate within the team are top notch. So now we want to go forward step by step.

If - and that should be the hope of everyone involved - it should be possible to continue the season quickly: How do you try to keep fit?

I make sure that I come to one or the other run in the forest on occasion. The trainer also warmly recommended that to us (laughs).
