Four national league teams are allowed to go up. Erding and Dorfen are now hoping for the mode classic.

Erding - officially nothing is yet, but the ice hockey Bayernliga will probably start in the coming season with at least 16, probably 17 or even 18 teams. Manfred Detterbeck, the ice hockey boss of the ESC Dorfen, assumes in any case a larger than the previous field of 14.

The Bavarian Ice Sports Association (BEV) has asked the ice pirates whether they accept the right to start in the Bavarian League. "Of course, because we fulfill the five-point program of the association and can provide the required youth teams, we agreed," said Detterbeck.

Apparently, the four candidates for promotion from the semi-finals of the Landesliga playoffs were also granted a right to start for the 2020/21 Bayernliga season. Some of the clubs have already announced this themselves. Together with the previous field of participants, moving up the ESV Buchloe, EA Kempten Sharks, ERSC Amberg Wild Lions and the VFE Ulm / Neu-Ulm Devils would result in an expansion of the Bavarian League to a total of 17 teams.

Detterbeck also assumes this. "The only question now is: how does it look upwards?" Detterbeck continues. The insolvent top division ERC Bulls Sonthofen could play a key role. If he slipped into the Bayernliga, there would be 18 teams.

Then the Bayernliga could play a main round. The last eight would have to go into the playdowns, the rest of the playoffs (places one to six) or (PrePlayoffs). "That would be great, of course, the classic ice hockey game," enthuses Detterbeck. But it is also quite possible that TEV Miesbach will advance to the Oberliga Süd as the main round champion or other interested clubs. 18, 17 or 16 teams - "the association has enough creative minds to design a corresponding mode," says the Dorfen ice hockey boss. The gladiators wouldn't mind, but they just take it as it comes. The main thing is that it can even be played in the new season. "Otherwise it will be critical," says Gladiators boss Rainier Sabus.

Bayern League 2020/21:

The provisional status: EHC Klostersee, TEV Miesbach (possibly Oberrücker Oberliga), HC Landsberg Riverkings, EHC Löwen Waldkraiburg, TSV Erding Gladiators, EHF Passau Blackhawks, EC Pfaffenhofen Eisogs, TSV Peißenberg Eisackler, ESC Riverrats Geretsried, ESC ERViraten Dorfen, ESC Eispiraten Mighty Dogs, EHC Königsbrunn penguins, EA Schongau Mammuts; from the national league: ESV Buchloe, EA Kempten Sharks, ERSC Amberg Wild Lions, VFE Ulm / Neu-Ulm Devils.
