Affected by coronavirus, the doctor at Stade de Reims committed suicide at 60

Bernard Gonzalez, doctor of the Stade de Reims (Ligue 1) killed himself this Sunday at the age of 60. A suicide which would be linked to his Covid-19 contamination.


The doctor in charge of the first team of the Stade de Reims, Bernard Gonzalez, committed suicide at his home this Sunday at the age of 60, leaving a letter explaining that his gesture would be linked to his contamination at Covid-19. The information was revealed by Le Parisien , where spoke Arnaud Robinet, close to the doctor and mayor of the city of Reims. "I have a touched thought for his parents, for his wife, his family. He is a collateral victim of Covid-19, because it had been detected positive and was in his fortnight. I know he left a note to explain his gesture. But I don't know its content (...) It was the club doctor, he says. A great professional, recognized and appreciated by all ”. Bernard Gonzalez had notably participated in the rise of Reims in Ligue 1.

No member of the Ligue 1 club was aware of his action and that he was positive for the virus. "I spoke to him last week and he never raised this subject. It's incomprehensible. What a drama. It will now be necessary to warn the players and the staff. The shock will be terrible, ”reveals a member of the Reims staff on a daily basis. Bernard Gonzalez was in confinement at home with his wife, also contaminated by Covid-19.

This pandemic affects the Stade de Reims in the heart, it is a personality of Reims and a great professional of the sport who left us. His mission to the club of more than 20 years has been carried out with the utmost professionalism, in a passionate and even selfless manner. Doctor Gonzalez, in the harshest periods of the club, thus worked on a voluntary basis. (...). He is my personal doctor, and today all my thoughts, those of the club of which he will remain a strong figure, go to his wife and parents. Today is a drama that strikes us. ”
