After much persuasion, Franz Möhwald took over the coaching job at TSV Pentenried in January. Now, due to Corona, everything can be over before it really started.

Pentenried - Franz Möhwald really hadn't expected that. With the fact that this spring he has not too little, but too much time. Because the Corona crisis ensures that the 59-year-old is not standing on the football field at all instead of five times a week. “Suddenly there is a huge hole in life. You don't even know what to do with all the time, ”says the new coach of A-Classist TSV Pentenried and team manager of the old team of Bayern Munich.

The whole thing also makes him think. Football, which is actually so important, suddenly takes a back seat. "You can tell that you can do it without", he concluded after the first few weeks without the round leather.

Professionally no restrictions - but soccer as compensation is missing

At least professionally, the native of Pentenrieder has so far hardly any restrictions due to the cuts made in the course of the spread of the corona virus in everyday life. He works in the construction industry, his company, which is also based in Pentenried, continues to install doors and windows and currently has “work without end” (Möhwald). Only the compensation after work ends.

Möhwald had just started a new task. After months of persuasion by his nephew, Michael Möhwald, team captain of the first men and football department manager at TSV Pentenried since the beginning of the year, he took over the coaching position at his home club - in addition to his work as a team manager for the senior B team at 2010 FC Bayern. “Actually, when I was 59, I could just sit on the couch. Let's see how long my wife will be with me when I am at the soccer field almost every day, ”said Möhwald jokingly a few weeks ago.

New coach Möhwald adheres to the old school

In the first few days as coach of the A-Classist, the new coach was very enthusiastic. With order and discipline he wanted to get the team going - supported by the playing assistant coach Magnus Piele.

He surprised his players with unusual actions such as a breathalyzer at the meeting point or punishment with pushups. Möhwald has no problem with being called an old school trainer.

Franz Möhwald: "I'm not the buddy type"

"I'm not the buddy. The players don't have to love me or go to parties with me, ”he clarifies. "I do my training and ready."

He got some tips from his daughter Kristin, player at women's district division SC Pöcking-Possenhofen, who is in possession of a coaching license. He also wanted to bring his experience from FC Bayern's successful Ü40 team, where he has to deal with well-known players like ex-professional Francisco Copado and usually also chases one appointment after the other.

Corona: TSV Pentenried coach has internally ticked off the season

At the moment, all of this is out of the question. "I have already ticked off the season internally, because there is no antidote to the virus. There are more important things now, ”says Möhwald. His only, not really serious suggestion, how one could still end the current season: "One could forbid the duels."

Möhwald had originally only agreed to work for three months. If the season ended prematurely, everything would be over before it really started.

Möhwald considers extending the contract as possible

At the moment he does not want to definitively determine how it will go on. However, he is at least cautiously optimistic about continuing work in Pentenried if preparation for the new season can begin on schedule in the summer. "If it is possible without any danger by then, I can well imagine continuing to work with the team," says Möhwald.

In the long run, his two tasks in soccer could be a little stressful. But he can sit enough on the couch at the moment.
