Herbert Rott, 65, has been a member of the TSV Emmering Board of Directors for 47 years, and has been Chairman for 22 years. He started as a secretary at the age of 18 and has since then filled every post with the exception of the cashier.

“In the beginning I rummaged through the club archive for nights. Now I know everything about the club, ”says Rott in an interview with the Ebersberger Zeitung.

A few days after this year's annual general meeting, the corona crisis brought club sport to a standstill nationwide. How much is the TSV affected from an economic perspective?

Herbert Rott: We are not in financial need and can also wait a few months, but the situation affects us. On the one hand, the important revenue for us in the economy - one of our mainstays - and away from the viewers. On the other hand, some issues continue.

At the annual general meeting, you particularly mentioned the upcoming retrofitting of the floodlight system and the renovation of the lawn. . .

These expenses are also pending. At the end of April we have an appointment to test the stability of our floodlight masts. A painful topic that we have been working on for two years. After that, we want to hang up the new LED lamps at the TSV within two months. And we won't get such an opportunity to redevelop the course anytime soon, because the weather is fine and the players won't be able to get on the courts in the next few weeks anyway.

When do you personally expect training to resume?

I have a wish, which is on shaky legs, that the flu wave is over when it gets really warm.

You have been emphasizing for over ten years that your personal focus is on youth. How do you see the development of the TSV youth work?

It is very positive that we now have a lot of very small and medium-sized young players. The only major problem is that we have too few supervisors. Especially now that so many little ones are coming, that's a shame. That is why some of our first players are considering joining there. That would of course be a dream.

With this growing substructure, will you soon be able to provide your own youth teams in the large field area?

This is at most a dream and not foreseeable. The syndicate with TSV Aßling and SV Ostermünchen takes us further and offers us from C-youth the only option for a constant game operation. I see the SG very positively and am more for constancy in this flexible model. Even if some players have therefore already stopped.

The TSV Assembly in Emmering has spoken out almost unanimously against the BFV's planned reduction in the youth generation to strengthen the under-19 teams. Why?

Because from my point of view this is just a gimmick and postponement of the problem, which only upsets the teams unnecessarily. You could then make such a shoot at any occasion in the future. In terms of substance, nothing works. We decided years ago that every player should only play in his age group, even if he could fill up higher. Well, there are always exceptions.

What other goals do you want to work on in the future?

Since both our tennis and football divisions are developing very positively, I hope that nothing will soon break or happen in the village, which is the fault of the board (laughs).

And where should the journey for the successful soccer team go?

We don't have to move up to the Bundesliga so that I can achieve my goals, but to offer people from the surrounding area a platform that is as sporty as possible. That's why I want to promote youth work at TSV Emmering so that the district league is not a one-stop-shop for us. For the footballers, the district league is quite in there, as you can see in the unbeaten relegation games. But then the question would be whether you'd rather play somewhere in Munich in empty seats or around Ostermünchen with lots of spectators.
